Miss India was crowned Miss World last night for the first time in 17 years

For the first time in 17 years, an Indian contestant has taken home the Miss World crown, beating 108 other countries in the process.

Manushi Chhillar won the event in China last night, with the runners up being Miss England Stephanie Hill and Miss Mexico Andrea Meza.

Miss India’s answer to the final question in the question round has been praised.

The question was, “Which profession deserves the highest salary and why?”

Miss India answered with, “A mother deserves the highest respect. It’s not just about the cash but also the love and respect that you give to someone.

“My mother has been a huge inspiration. It’s the mother’s job that deserves the biggest salary.”

Taking to Instagram to post about her win, Miss India writes, “I am so happy that I have done my nation proud and I am very excited to begin a new journey!
