If you’re a bit of a speed demon, we’ve got some bad news.
Starting October 15, the speed limits on both Emirates Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road are dropping from 120 kilometres per hour to 110.
Dubai Police have already started to install new signboards on both highways to remind motorists of the change.
The 20 kilometre per hour grace limit still remains, meaning the maximum speed you can go before getting a fine is 130 kilometres per hour.
The decision was made in September by the RTA and Dubai Police after numerous accidents on both roads over the past two years.
“Lowering the speed limits on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and Emirates Road is a result of elaborate traffic safety studies and analysis of traffic accident data along with their causes over the past years,” Maitha Mohammed bin Adai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency told Gulf News.
“It resulted in addressing several traffic safety requirements such as pedestrian bridges, safety rails and truck lay-by areas.”
