The internet just helped send a plane full of aid to Somalia

Despite the stick the world wide web and social media as a whole receive, sometimes, just sometimes, something amazing results from using them in a proper manner.

Today, we have the perfect example. It all started on Thursday night, with Vine sensation turned entrepreneur Jerome Jarre calling out the mainstream media outlets for their failure to cover the famine currently happening in Somalia. He used the hashtag #TurkishAirlinesHelpSomalia and since then, something special has happened.

Internet personalities and mainstream celebrities soon got on board, with Ben Stiller, Casey Neistat and many others using the hashtag and urging people to get on board with the campaign to fly food to Somalia using a Turkish Airlines plane, currently the only commercial airline operating flights to Somalia.

The latest amazing twist came in the form of a tweet from Turkish Airlines, who have promised to send aid to the country.

As of writing, the GoFundMe campaign for the project currently sits at $846,000, or AED3,100,000.
