Thirteen year-old Syrian refugee steals hearts on The Voice Kids

Six months ago, 13-year-old The Voice Kids contestant Jean fled his home country of Syria to find solace with his family in The Netherlands.

Despite living in a temporary refugee center in Dordrecht, Jean’s spirit hasn’t been quelled — stepping up to perform on the famous music talent show in front of a packed-out arena.

In just his first performance, Jean managed to turn the heads (and chairs) of the show’s three judges, with them all scrabbling to get Jean to join their teams.

Warning: If you’re prone to crying at heartwarming auditions, prepare yourselves…

Jean’s rendition of Diamonds by Rihanna won the hearts of the three judges, singers Marco Borsato and Ilse de Lange as well as Dutch rapper Ali Bouali.

He explained that he had come to The Netherlands to “make a new life”, and took the chance to thank the refugee center for the kindness they had extended his family and other Syrian refugees.
