Oprah Winfrey is looking to visit Saudi Arabia twice this year, to deliver two talks titled ‘Oprah’s Lifeclass’.
Saudi Arabia’s official entertainment calendar lists two events for Oprah this year, with the first taking place on September 7 in Jeddah and the second taking place on December 9 in Riyadh.
A time and place for the event has not yet been set.
The calendar states, “This is a golden opportunity to enjoy a highly interactive experience with the iconic Oprah Winfrey.
“Oprah is a powerhouse of a woman who has put her talents, efforts, celebrity and money into shining the spotlight onto those throughout the world who are disadvantaged and acting to help them.”
When The Oprah Winfrey Show first aired in Saudi Arabia back in 2004, it quickly became the highest-rated English-language programme among women 25 and younger, the New York Times reported.
Oprah’s talks could be regarded as another step towards female empowerment in the Saudi Kingdom, having recently held their first ever Women’s Day event, as well as having lifted the ban on women voting or taking part in elections in 2015.
A woman was also recently appointed as the head of the Saudi Arabian stock exchange.
